A minor pentatonic, position 1
How to use it
Pick every note, alternating down and up. Start on Learn the shape: no click, the next note lights up once you play the current one. Then Play to the click at a tempo you can play cleanly. With auto-adjust on, a clean run adds 5 bpm and a messy one takes 5 off. The five pentatonic positions link up to cover the whole neck, and every shape works in any key: slide it so the gold roots sit on your key note.
Strumming to the click
How to use it
Keep your strumming hand moving down and up in eighth notes the whole time, and just miss the strings on the gaps. For pure timing work, mute the strings with your fretting hand so each strum is a clean hit. Only timing is scored: early means rushing, late means dragging. When a pattern is tight, set the click to beats 2 and 4 so you have to hold the time yourself.

Setup
Input
GS Mini: the Mac's built-in mic is fine. Sit about half a metre away. Strat: plug into a USB audio interface (a Focusrite Scarlett Solo or similar) and pick it above, or put the Mac near the amp. Watch the tuner: if it reads your open strings correctly, detection is working.
Timing
Latency is the delay between a sound happening and the app hearing it. With speakers: the app plays 8 clicks and times how long the mic takes to hear them. By strumming: use this one with headphones. Strum muted strings exactly on 12 clicks. Headphones are better for practice anyway because they keep the click out of the mic.
